elaine chiu, a cityscape painter
“as a hong kong post-90s artist, elaine chiu reflects her individual relationship with the fast-paced urban culture in hong kong through landscapes and cityscapes. from her perspectives, the artworks reveal personal sentiments that merge with the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. with watercolour as a primary medium, its airy brushes of transparency promise enrapturing images in a mystifying and bewildering era. to her, painting is not only an exploration in the microcosmic portrait of the city, but also a journey of soul searching. combining the realistic street images with watercolour rendering, she projects the local communities and cultures through her eyes and soul.
elaine chiu graduated from the university of hong kong with a bachelor’s degree in art history in 2018. she has been participating in different art projects, such as exhibitions, mural painting, watercolour courses and outdoor sketching workshops. step by step elaine wishes to achieve her dream and share with more people her passion towards hong kong’s unique streetscapes.”
